VMware has released VMTools Version 12, but many users may not be aware that their existing Linux distributions with VMware VM Tools have already reached End-of-Life (EoL). VMware announced the EoL for VMTools v10, which ended on July 30, 2023, and for VMTools v11, which will end on September 19, 2024.
As part of the IT Infrastructure Team responsible for managing VM servers, it is advisable to uninstall the outdated VM Tools v10 from your Linux distributions and switch to the more current Open-VM-Tools. Follow the commands below to ensure you are using the latest supported version.
Uninstall VMware VM Tools
sudo /usr/bin/vmware-uninstall-tools.pl
Install Open-VM-Tools
sudo apt install open-vm-tools open-vm-tools-desktop
By making this transition, you can maintain optimal performance and support for your VMware environment.
